It is important to know the motivations behind a patient seeking rhinoplasty surgery. It helps you learn of their commitment. It helps you determine what they’re really looking for which will then guide how you go about accomplishing the rhinoplasty. Most patients, regardless of their presenting age, will also relate that they have thought about changing their nose since a very young age. Truly.
There is a fascinating psychology about how age affects a patient’s rhinoplasty desires and how this correlates with happiness or satisfaction related to the surgery. Generally, the younger patient will request bigger changes, often guided by media, and is most satisfied when the bigger changes have been met. In contrast, the older patient will generally request more subtle changes and is most happy when subtle changes have been accomplished successfully. This is a truism that I take to heart and respect, but nevertheless, each, and every patient generally has specific ideas in mind with regard to the rhinoplasty journey, and we continue to use morphing technology to help define a rhinoplasty plan, often making several iterations of a possible, morphed rhinoplasty before selecting the perfect one. Yes, it is a Goldilocks process.
