Subtle polish and prettiness
Though I would like to say that rhinoplasty surgery is functional and structural, and it is, the third ingredient is that rhinoplasty is always aesthetic too, and this must always be respected. This is where the proverbial “art of rhinoplasty” comes to the fore. It is true, that of all of the multitude of surgeries that the Facial plastic surgeon must master, rhinoplasty is widely considered the most technical. There is a delicate balance between size of the bridge and the tip, projection, angulation, width, symmetry and a balance with the rest of the facial anatomy. All of these elements must be accounted for in rhinoplasty planning and execution. On top of that, there is wide-ranging diversity in individual anatomy and often a person’s anatomy might have asymmetry and imbalance, and even the anatomic puzzle pieces of the nose may be asymmetric and lacking.
This lady was seeking a subtle improvement in her nasal bridge predominantly. She felt her nose looked big or prominent, and the bridge itself was hawkish. We have been able to adjust the bridge with a preservation type rhinoplasty to create a straight bridge and a feminine super tip break, the separation between the nasal anatomy and the bridge itself. Though subtle, this gives her nose a more elegant, refined, and feminine look. Her body language when I last saw her tells the story better than I can possibly phrase it myself.
