Restoring Youthfulness To The Brow And Forehead
AÂ brow lift, also known as an upper facelift or forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the forehead, eyebrows and upper eyelids. It is designed to correct wrinkles and sagging skin in the forehead area, as well as to elevate the position of the eyebrows for a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Benefits Of Brow Lift Surgery
Like the rest of the face and the body, the appearance of the forehead, nose and eyelids change as we age. Though the development of wrinkles, frown lines and other changes around the brow and forehead is common, some people find it frustrating. Patients may pursue this procedure for a variety of reasons, including:
Reduce wrinkles around the forehead, nose and between the eyebrows
Reduce and smooth the appearance of deep folds made from furrowing the eyebrows
Raise sagging eyebrows
Reposition the eyebrows into a more youthful and desirable place
Preparing For Your Brow Lift
Candidates for this procedure should overall be physically healthy, should not smoke and should have realistic expectations of the surgery. You may also be instructed to stop taking certain medications and receive a clean bill of health from your primary doctor before being a candidate for plastic surgery. From there, Dr. Burke will help you decide on the surgical method and other details of your procedure to ensure you receive your desired results.
What To Expect?
Performed under general anesthesia, brow lift surgery can take several hours to complete. There are several surgical techniques used, and Dr. Burke will help you choose the best one for your body and your goals. Techniques include:
- Endoscopic. Using a small camera called an endoscope, Dr. Burke lifts and repositions the forehead and eyebrows. It is considered a less invasive technique than traditional brow lift surgeries and is typically performed through several small incisions in the scalp, rather than a single, larger incision.
- Traditional. Dr. Burke makes a long incision along the top of the scalp, typically from ear to ear. The skin is then lifted, and the underlying muscles and tissues are repositioned or removed as needed to achieve the desired results. The skin is then re-draped and stitched, stapled or glued back into place.
- Temporal. Also known as a lateral brow lift, this technique is performed through small incisions made in the temples. Dr. Burke will lift and reposition the muscles and tissues in the temporal area. The incisions are then closed with sutures, staples or surgical skin glue.
Recovery From Brow Lift Surgery
Patients undergoing this surgery first receive general anesthesia. Once the patient is asleep, the surgery typically takes several hours. Recovery time varies depending on the individual and the extent of the surgery, but swelling and bruising are common side effects that usually subside within a few weeks. It is important to follow all post-operative instructions as outlined by Dr. Burke to ensure a safe and efficient recovery.
