For Enhanced, Glowing Skin
At Dr. Alan Burke: Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Henrico, VA, we offer a wide variety of chemical peels. We want you to have glowing skin that you can feel confident about. Our chemical peels are gentle yet effective and are used to treat common skin concerns such as wrinkles, fine lines, acne scarring and more.
What Is A Chemical Peel, And How Does It Work?
A chemical peel works by exfoliating your skin and stimulating new protein, collagen and elastin production. Types of chemical peels can vary based on depth, acid type, acid concentration, pH of solution and time on the skin. At Dr. Alan Burke: Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, we offer VI Peels by Vitality Institute.
Vitality Institute’s upgraded chemical peel offers a medium depth to penetrate through the dermal-epidermal junction. It uses a blend of ingredients that include salicylic acid, TCA, retinoic acid, vitamin C, phenol and a blend of minerals, as well as a pain-numbing ingredient to lessen any burning sensation that may occur.
Different Types Of Chemical Peels
All of the VI Peels we provide are safe for different skin types and skin tones. They are designed to improve certain skin concerns, such as:
Sun damage
Pigmentation
Acne and acne scars
Wrinkles and fine lines
For your convenience, we offer six different types of chemical peels. Each one is designed to treat specific concerns you may have with your skin. Types include:
Treatment Regimen
A VI Peel can be performed as a standalone treatment every 4-6 weeks, or it can be combined with other treatments to further enhance results. For example, pairing VI Peels with BroadBand Light (BBL) treatments boosts outcomes when treating pigmentation or acne.

What To Expect During Your Chemical Peel
Before beginning your treatment, Dr. Burke and our team will discuss your skincare goals with you during your consultation. After deciding on the best treatment for you and your skin type and concerns, our team will apply the formula to your face. We first use gauze to apply the formula in sweeping strokes. Then, we will wait in between each application to allow the formula to absorb into your skin. This will also allow our team to make sure your skin is reacting appropriately to the treatment.
What To Expect After Your Chemical Peel
After your chemical peel treatment, you may experience some facial redness and/or glow, or you may even look tanner than usual. This is a normal and expected reaction. After treatment, we will provide you with specific post-treatment instructions and products to ensure you receive the best results! When you return home, we will instruct you to wash off the chemical peel with a mild cleanser and water about 4-6 hours after your treatment. You should expect to experience some flaking of the skin the second day after your treatment, which will turn into peeling around 3-5 days after your treatment. A week later, your skin should stop peeling to reveal your new, glowing skin!
